A reimagined piece of chicago history
At the bustling intersection of May and Washington in Chicago’s stylish West Loop neighborhood stands a handsome three-story brick building erected in 1909. This first incarnation was the Free Methodist Publishing House, an architectural gem, and has since undergone various transformations. From the Walter Rudolph Casket Factory in the 1930’s - 1950’s to serving as The Museum of Holography from 1976 - 2009, the building has finally found its true calling as the welcoming abode of the Publishing House Bed and Breakfast.
Meticulously crafted in 2016 in collaboration with Vero Design + Build, Architects Kara Boyd and Krista Petkovsek, and Siren Betty Design, the interior boasts carefully preserved original wood paneling, remnants of 1980s holograms, and exquisite century-old maple floors. Embracing a literary motif, each of our inviting rooms is named after a renowned Chicago author or a setting from a captivating Chicago-based novel, complete with copies of these literary works for your reading pleasure during your stay with us.
Today, The Publishing House shares its address with Solo Salon, located on the first floor, and The Press Room, our basement wine bar. We are the top-ranked boutique B&B in the Midwest since opening day on June 1, 2017, killer breakfast you’ll want to write home about, and we have hosted over 200 wedding groups over the course of the last 7 years. We cannot wait to welcome you to the West Loop of Chicago and look forward to you becoming a part of our history and our family.
